Our History
The late Mr. Roll C. Goodsell founded Canterbury Press in 1950. The Company's first location, in the garage of the Goodsell home on Canterbury Hill near Rome, New York, provided the Company's name. Financial and management expertise was initially provided by silent partners Donald Nevinger and John Eikenberg. Due to the success and growth of the Company, operations were quickly moved to the downtown Rome area in 1952. In 1960, Canterbury again ran out of expansion room and the Company moved to its current location of 301 Mill Street, Rome, New York. In 1964, the Company was sold to Mr. A. Ward West following the untimely death of Mr. Goodsell in an automobile accident.
In 1975, Canterbury Press became one of the first companies in the country to establish an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and to date remains a 100% employee owned company. Throughout the Company's history, improvements and changes have been made to keep pace with the printing industry and changing times. The Company has grown from a one-man operation to a vibrant business employing more than 70. With their help, we will continue to grow and prosper. Capabilities & Equipment
